Smiths Aerospace Replaces Manual Document Change Process with an Automated Workflow Solution

DAYTON, Ohio (July 22, 2002): Document Imaging Solutions, Inc. (DIS), a full-service systems integration company has provided a customized solution, to automate and streamline Smiths Aerospace (Smiths) engineering document change process for their Dayton Ohio facility.

is a robust, "out-of-the-box" open document management system for enterprise networks, corporate Intranets, and the Internet. It manages documents throughout their life cycle, from authoring and/or capture through review, approval, distribution, and archiving.

Smiths Aerospace asked DIS for a document management solution that would shorten their change approval process and increase productivity for all phases of document change approvals from internal departments, external customers and government agencies. DIS worked with the Manager of Engineering Services at Smiths Aerospace, to understand Smiths’ then current document change system. As result, DIS used to develop a custom electronic engineering document change workflow solution as well as a parts list database management, viewing and reporting solution.

The Manager of Engineering Services at Smiths states, “With , we are expecting to streamline our document change process. Elimination of time-consuming, manual tasks involved in our current system, will improve both efficiency and productivity ”.

Smiths Aerospace and DIS are near completion of the beta test of the new system where the Smiths team experienced a significant reduction in cycle time and an increase in productivity. Other operating departments are anxious for the system to be deployed into live production for company-wide use.
